Sam finished his first Vacation Bible School last week at our church, Berean Baptist. He had a great time, playing with friends in the outside carnival, singing during music worship time and learning about the promises of God through Deuteronomy 7:9 and the stories of Moses, Israel in Egypt and the Exodus –
“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” (NASB)
Berean’s VBS program is in the evening, from 6:30-8:30pm. They get a lot more parent volunteers (400+) that way, as well as kids who are enrolled in other daytime programs. According to the final numbers, there were approximately 1740 kids registered (preschool through junior high) and a
peak attendance of 1919 kids, who consumed 52,500 donuts!
Needless to say, Sam’s schedule was definitely out of wack last week. Bedtime is ususally between 7:30-8:00, but he was ramped up each night until 9:30-10:00… I don’t think he (we?) would have survived without taking a nap most of the days, which he never does otherwise. Doing the evening pickups gave Cindy and I a foretaste of our upcoming lives as parents of school-age children!
Ben knew that he couldn’t stay when we dropped off Sam, but that certainly didn’t stop the cries of “Me too! Me too!” on the way home. Two more years, Ben, two more years…
